Family portrait sessions don't have to be stressful. In fact, the sessions where everyone laughs and plays naturally always produce the best photos. Here's how to set up your family for a great session. ## 1. Schedule Around Nap Times A tired toddler is the enemy of great portraits. Book your session when your little ones are typically at their best — usually mid-morning for most families. ## 2. Coordinate, Don't Match You don't all need to wear the same outfit. Choose a color palette (2–3 colors) and let everyone pick something they're comfortable in from that palette. Everyone ends up looking cohesive without looking like they're in a uniform. ## 3. Bring Snacks and Distractions For young kids, a small snack break can completely reset the mood. A favorite toy or stuffed animal can also help shy kids warm up. ## 4. Lower Your Expectations — in the Best Way Not every photo will be perfect and posed. Some of the best family portraits are genuine moments of chaos and laughter. Let go of perfection and enjoy the process. ## 5. Trust Us to Handle the Kids We're experienced with children of all ages, temperaments, and needs — including kids on the spectrum. We'll never force a pose or pressure a child. We follow their lead and create a safe, fun environment.
