How to Prepare for Your Newborn Session

A newborn session has a lot of moving pieces — timing, feeding, temperature, and an unpredictable tiny human. Here's everything you need to know to make it smooth.

Newborn sessions work best when baby is calm, full, and warm. Here's how to set your session up for success. ## Timing Is Everything Ideal newborn sessions happen between days 5 and 14. Before day 5, babies are often still adjusting to life outside the womb. After day 14, they start becoming more alert and harder to curl into those sleepy poses. ## Feed Before You Arrive A full baby is a sleepy baby — and sleepy babies are exactly what makes newborn poses possible. Try to feed baby right before you leave for the session. ## Keep the Studio Warm We keep the studio warm (around 80°F) to help baby stay comfortable and drowsy. Dress in layers so you can remove them if you get too warm. ## Don't Stress This is the part parents always need to hear: everything will be okay. We've photographed over 10,000 babies. We know how to work with fussy babies, feeding breaks, and blowouts. Relax and enjoy the experience — we'll handle everything else.
